Table Top Roll Playing
TL;DR – Summery:
I have spent over 40 years telling stories, and I want more than anything to share what I have learned with you. I am running a drop in game night every Thursday from 4 – 6. The focus of this time will be centered on learning the ins and outs of roleplaying in any system. We will often stop and discuss the actions of the NPCs and players so that the players can get a good handle on how to interact with each other and their Storyteller. One of Kelly’s TED talks:
When I was 6 years old, I ran my first D&D session. It was up in the mountains sitting around a campfire, and I had about 30 players. I say D&D because that was really all there was back then. So, all roleplaying was D&D.
From there I ran my own world of Role-Playing, I wouldn't call it a Homebrew because there really weren’t any rules, it was the purest form of collaborative storytelling. I would set the stage for my players and watch them go wild. I rarely said, “No you can’t do that”, but there were always consequences for your actions. Kill an Inn Keeper, and you will get their Sister, who happens to be a lvl 20 Fighter, hunting them down.
The first game I played that actually had a character sheet was Vampire the Masquerade and I loved it. Up until my Junior year in High school I would just tell stories, basically a choose your own adventure book. I then started playing D&D, my first character was a fighter. And it was okay, but it just didn’t click with me. I then made one half of a couple of Drow brothers that hid their true nature from the party. Again, it was okay but didn’t click with me.
Over the years I have done a lot of different systems, and the one I keep going back to is the D10 rules of the World of Darkness. It gives the best framework to build a truly unique and personalized characters. And Not just Fighter Number 2 that has all the same attacks as fighter numbers 1 and 3.
I plan to evolve the Thursday drop in games to an episodic story that players can use the same characters week to week. If you are interested please click the link below and sign up! There is no charge, I just want to get an idea of how much experience is out there.
