Griffin’s Picks for the week of 4/22/2026

1: Flash #32 - DC

The second installment of Ryan North’s run on Flash continues to exceed my expectations with great art by Gavin Guidry that perfectly captures the lighthearted tone of the story.

If you missed the last issue (or my review of it), someone is paying the people of Central City to throw themselves off of buildings, stand in front of trains and put themselves in harm's way in order to capture videos of the Flash saving them, so the videos can be monetized. Wally is exhausted since it just doesn’t seem to stop and even though nobody has been hurt yet, it’s only a matter of time. But when Captain Cold of all people begins to participate in this disturbing new trend, Flash knows something else must be wrong…

It’s been years since Flash has been this good. Ryan North understands the character, his relationships with the Rogues and most importantly his family. If you’re looking for something light and jovial, this is the comic for you. Not to say that there aren’t any stakes, but it’s not all doom and gloom. Plus! If you didn’t read the previous issue, this one does a pretty good job at summing it up.

2: Savage Dragon #279 - Image

A new issue of  Savage Dragon only three months after the last one? It looks like Erik Larsen is trying to make 2026 the Year of the Dragon because there are issues solicited for May, June and July. Now whether or not those get delayed is another question but for being the sole writer and artist, I’m impressed.

This is the last of four issues centered around Malcolm Dragon’s four kids, with this one being all about his daughter Maddy as she attempts to hone her lightning powers. She does this with the guidance of Lightning Girl, also known as Marsha Bradley, but when a portal opens up that takes Maddy to ‘Nogenitalia’ (*sigh*, yeah I know, let’s move along), she has to save the people of this new strange land and figure out a way home without the assistance of her mentor.

As fun as the last few issues have been, I’m looking forward to the story following Malcolm Dragon once again. Part of that is because of the infrequency in Savage Dragon releases. It feels like this arc has lasted forever and that’s partially because it has, it’s taken more than a year to finish up these four issues. However, the whole issue was done by Larsen without a backup, so it gets some points back for that at the very least.

3: Various - Various Publishers

If you’ve been collecting comics for an extended period of time, then you know that it seems like everything you’re reading comes out all at once and for me, this week is a shining example of that phenomenon. As such, I’m going to list a few other books that come out this week that are worth checking out in lieu of a third extended review. Sound good? Good, because that’s what we’re doing.

Marc Spector: Moon Knight #3 - Marvel

Universal Monsters: Phantom of the Opera #3 - Image

Infernal Hulk #6 - Marvel

Spider-Man / Superman - Marvel / DC
